A LITTLE MORE ABOUT ME
A LITTLE MORE ABOUT ME
My wedding photography journey began when I attended a dear friend’s wedding in 2007. Inspired by their love and beautiful decor, I couldn’t resist photographing the fun unfolding around me. Little did I know that wedding would change my career as well as my life - because I ended up meeting my husband that night!
Weddings have since held a very special place in my heart. All the carefully-chosen details and heartfelt emotions - my personal favourite being when the groom sees his bride for the first time! I also love hearing my brides describe how they’re going to make their wedding unique to their love - which is why I always shoot with a second photographer. Together, we capture all those special touches.
Growing up, photography was not on my radar as a career choice. I actually selected as many maths and science subjects as my school would allow! Following matric, I went on to complete a degree in Actuarial Science and throughout varsity, I was told that I’d most likely become a CEO one day - turns out ‘one day’ was the day I turned thirty!
So how did things swing so swiftly? In 2012, I gave birth to a beautiful baby boy. As Mikey grew, so did my love for documenting our family’s journey. I had a good job working as a number-cruncher for one of South Africa’s biggest retailers but I longed to pursue my passion for photography. So, in 2016, with lots of love and support from my husband, I set off to follow my dream!
These days, you’re likely to find me editing at my computer when I’m not chasing a little black ball around a squash court! As soon as the school day finishes, my mom hat comes on and I spend a few hours with Mikey in the afternoon. I treasure the flexibility my job affords me although I can hardly call it a job. Some days, it’s movies with Mikey and others, it’s coffee and cake in Cape Town with my fabulous clients!

The feeling I get when I capture one of life’s perfect moments is indescribable. You might see me jump with glee, or squeal when I look at the back of my camera! The best way I’ve found to describe how I feel is this poem by e e cummings

i carry your heart with me (i carry it in my heart)
i am never without it (anywhere i go you go, my dear;
and whatever is done by only me is your doing, my darling)
no fate (for you are my fate, my sweet)
i want no world (for beautiful you are my world, my true)
and it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you
here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows
higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that’s keeping the stars apart
i carry your heart (i carry it in my heart)
